When approaching the Visitor Center via hire car from the north, we recommend taking Highway 308 southwards towards Tulum. When you reach Tulum itself, take a left turn towards the Tulum beach hotel zone.*
At the end of this road, take a right and follow the coastal road until you see the Mayan Arch – the entrance to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Security guards will be on-hand to greet you and to take your entrance fee of 25 pesos per person (approximately $2). They will also give you a bracelet, which will serve as your ticket to enter the park.
Next, drive along a sandy track for 9km until you reach the Visitor Center of Sian Ka’an, situated right next to the Caapechen lagoon. We’ll be there to welcome you before taking you round the small on-site museum and giving you an overview of the tours.
*On your right, you’ll see a parking lot which is also home to a Bancomer Bank, Hertz car rental and San Francisco superstore. Although we’ll provide you with bottled water, soft drinks, a Mayan snack and fruit, we advise if you plan on staying over night in the Biosphere Reserve, that you pick up food and drink from the superstore as there is nowhere to buy supplies within the Reserve.
